This panoramic photograph was made deep in the Peruvian Andes, during a high-altitude trek through one of the most dramatic mountain ranges I’ve ever experienced: the Cordillera Huayhuash. At nearly 17,000 feet, the air was thin enough that distant airplanes passed seemingly at eye level, moving silently above the peaks.

As night fell, the mountains transformed into sharp silhouettes beneath a sky dense with stars. Snow-covered summits rose in layers, catching faint starlight while the Milky Way arced overhead. My lone headlamp traces the scale of the landscape below; human presence reduced to a single point of light amid vast stone and ice. The scene is one of immensity and perspective, a reminder of how small even the most ambitious journeys become when set against the high Andes and the night sky.
