Redemption
On this February evening, everything finally aligned. I reached the top just as the last other hiker was heading down, leaving the summit completely empty as the canyon below ignited with color. Warm light poured into Zion Canyon, tracing the winding Virgin River and setting the sandstone walls ablaze in deep reds and golds. With no crowds and no urgency, I was able to stay and watch the full transition from sunset into dusk, an unusually quiet and rare experience atop one of the park’s most iconic formations.
