Where can you camp in Yosemite? What are the best campgrounds in Yosemite? Did you know Yosemite has over 2,500 campsites in and around the park? That includes 415 campsites just in Yosemite Valley!
I’ve gone through tons of listings to put together this comprehensive guide to all the camping options around Yosemite, to hopefully save you some time.
I’d recommend first figuring out what area you might want to camp in (in the Valley, to the south, or along Tioga Pass, for example), then looking through that section to find a couple options that look like they’ll meet your needs for amenities, price, and all that. If they accept reservations, I’d definitely recommend making them ASAP, since campgrounds around Yosemite fill up fast.
You can also print out a copy of this page or take a photo of it on your phone, that way if you’re in the park and need a backup campsite, you’ll have some options ready for you. Some of these campsites can be busy, while others are much more secluded. Generally, the farther away from the big destinations (like the Valley) you get, the quieter it’ll be. Some of the sites are also only open seasonally, so be sure to confirm your dates.
Most of these campgrounds allow dogs, so long as they’re well behaved and on a leash. Many also have accommodations for RVs, campers, and trailers. And most of them have bear boxes or food lockers to secure anything that smells good away from any curious wildlife visitors.
Here’s a map of all the campsites…

Dispersed backcountry camping rules (overview)
Yosemite is much larger than you might think if you just visit the Valley. It’s nearly 1,200 square miles, and roughly 95% of it is designated wilderness just waiting for you to throw on a backpack and explore its magnificent granite peaks, gushing waterfalls and rivers, sublime meadows, and idyllic forests. As long as you follow the rules, you can backcountry camp throughout the park! Just be sure you have a wilderness permit (needed for any backcountry camping, at established sites or otherwise).
